The recent announcement from the White House forgiving up to $20,000 in student loan debt is a weight off the shoulders of millions of students and alumni. However, as Scholarship America President & CEO Mike Nylund said in our official statement:
“There is still much work to be done to break down additional barriers that stand in the way of current and future students accessing, persisting and completing college. Students, particularly underserved and minority students will continue to struggle with the high cost of tuition, housing, technology, transportation and more without significant systematic change.”

Working to End Scholarship Displacement
Scholarship America has worked closely with the Northern California College Promise Coalition (NCCPC) and Southern California College Attainment Network (SoCal CAN) to support AB288, a bill that would end the practice of scholarship displacement for Pell Grant and California DREAM-eligible students. Passed by the state Assembly and Senate, the legislation is awaiting Gov. Gavin Newsom's signature. Learn more.
